Sheyla serves as the Raíz Program Organizer. She received her Bachelors of Science from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in April of 2024. She majored in Health in Human Services with a concentration in Public Health. While pursuing her undergraduate degree, she actively participated and took on leadership roles in various organizations that support communities that serve Latinx, first generation, and low-income groups, and advocate for public health.
Within her community, Sheyla has provided assistance to improve community wellness through programs that focus on assisting legal, social, and educational needs in the area of Southwest Detroit. Having grown up in an immigrant family from Mexico, she has directly experienced the health and social disparities the Latinx community confronts. This awareness influences her efforts to advocate for and ensure access to community needs.
In her free time, Sheyla likes going to local community events where she goes to enjoy the food and music. Her current favorite events are pop ups, where local vendors come out to showcase their talents and culture.
