Equality Michigan provides education, victim services, and outreach that empowers LGBTQ+ neighbors throughout the state to live in safe communities, take care of our families, and create positive impact by improving our social, cultural, and economic lives and wellbeing.
The Grand Rapids Trans Foundation is a local nonprofit dedicated to helping the Grand Rapids Trans community transcend barriers and build equity. They provide scholarship funds to help trans and non-binary students with education-related expenses in Kent County, MI. They also host workshops and provide support for updating name and gender marker documents.
The GR LGBTQ+ Healthcare Consortium provides holistic and accountable health care support for LGBTQ+ people through coordinated health advocacy communication and accountability with health care organizations in the greater Grand Rapids region. Check their website for a directory of trans-affirming health care providers.
PFLAG Detroit offers various programs and support groups GLBT people and their families. This is a great resource for parents of GLBT kids. They also provide $500 college scholarships for students who have shown support for gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender individuals or programs.
Queering Medicine is a grassroots advocacy organization made up of queer people working to improve health outcomes for LGBTQ+ people in the Greater Lansing area using science-informed knowledge and practice. They maintain a Michigan Provider Directory of LGBTQ+ affirming health care providers.
The Ruth Ellis Center offers 5 core programs to serve the LGBTQ+ youth and young adult community in Detroit.
Health & Wellness Center: Provides primary health care, HIV testing, reproductive health care, and behavioral health care services.
Drop-in Center: A safe place for LBGTQ+ young people ages 13-30. Also provides health, wellness and social programs.
Ruth's House: REC's Intensive Treatment Unit (ITU) is a licensed and contracted 9-bed residential care facility specifically for self-identifying LGBTQ youth between the ages 12-17 who are under guardianship of the MDHHS’ child abuse/neglect or juvenile justice divisions. The facility offers an open, home-like, community-based setting with programming and services that are heavily focused on developing the practical coping skills that will ensure successful living as a LGBTQ adult.
Kofi House: The Center for Lesbian and Queer Women and Girls (CLQ) provides education, workforce development, health and wellness services, family support, and juvenile justice and foster care support services.
Ruth Ellis Institute: The Ruth Ellis Institute centers the experiences of LGBTQ youth to inform and change nation-wide systems of care through education and evaluation. They work to improve child welfare, juvenile justice, and integrated health systems.
SALUS Center serves Lansing’s LGBTQIA+ communities as a gathering space and information hub. They also host support groups and provide programming.
Stand with Trans-Michigan provides programs, educational events and support groups to serve transgender youth and their families.
Trans-ilience is a group of faculty, students, volunteers, and community members who are trans or cis allies dedicated to doing research that makes a difference in the lives of trans people. They have created a Michigan Map of Resources that includes some of the resources listed here and more!
Trans Sistas of Color Project helps transgender women of color in the Detroit area access health care, make name and gender marker changes on official documents, and provides financial assistance to combat the economic hardships many trans women of color encounter.
Transgender Michigan provides advocacy, support and education. It also brings together coalitions in the state of Michigan to unify and empower transgender and gender non-conformist communities.
Trans Lifeline is a grassroots hotline and micro-grant nonprofit organization offering direct emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis – for the trans community, by the trans community.
