Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is joining us in Lansing on April 16th as the plenary speaker for our annual Action Summit, Powering Change.
The action summit brings together hundreds of activists, educators, organizers and policy wonks to focus on expanding access to high quality health care, consent-based sex education, and affordable birth control.
“After years of attacks on access to health care and basic reproductive medicine like birth control, we have a lot of work to do here in Michigan,” said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. “It’s time to make health care a priority again, and that means trusting medical experts and patients to make the right decisions. The fired-up activists and volunteers who are leading that fight will be inspiring hundreds of people who want to take politicians out of the exam room, and I am proud to share my support for their work.”
The Action Summit will take place Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at the Lansing Center in Lansing, MI, from 12 pm to 5 pm.
“Our members and supporters worked hard to power the Pink Wave in 2018, and it showed,” said Lori Carpentier, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan. “We can’t think of anyone better suited to inspire us to take the Pink Wave from a force of nature to a source of power in 2019 and beyond than Gov. Whitmer.”
The summit will feature an opening plenary with legislators and Gov. Whitmer; eight engaging breakout sessions that will give attendees all the tools and confidence they need to make change on the issues that matter most to them; and a closing plenary dedicated to using the power of our stories and our art to make change, led by Zoë Ligon, Mira Krishnan, and Desiree Cooper.
