The difference between Michigan's 25th State House district candidate is stark. While Paul Smith has protested outside of Planned Parenthood health centers and called for violence against marginalized groups, State Rep. Nate Shannon has been hard at work fighting to ensure all Michiganders can live full, healthy lives.
Paul Smith is dangerous and unfit for office. Learn more about Smith and Shannon's records before you turn in your ballot for the November 3rd General Election.
Paul Smith, Republican Challenger
Paul Smith is one of the most extreme politicians running for office in Michigan with a long history of racism, xenophobia, homophobia and misogyny.
Paul Smith has called for the the murder of hundreds of thousands of American Muslims and was investigated by the Secret Service for calling for the execution of President Barack Obama. Paul Smith said, “[President Obama] Should Have Been Charged With Treason, Removed From Office, Tried, Convicted, Beheaded And Had His Head Shown On A Spike, Like Any Traitor.”
The dangerous fanaticism doesn’t end there. Paul Smith is also extreme in his opposition to reproductive rights. Smith advocates for extreme abortion bans and has attended protests outside of Planned Parenthood health centers.
Paul Smith is unfit for office and his radical agenda is dangerous.
Vote AGAINST Paul Smith by November 3.
State Rep. Nate Shannon, Democratic Incumbent
Endorsed by Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan
State Rep. Nate Shannon knows it’s becoming harder and harder for working people - whether black, brown or white - to afford health care and build a future for our families.
That’s why he’s committed to fighting against every attempt by politicians and special interest groups to block access to health care.
“Michiganders should never have to choose between putting food on the table or going to the doctor when they are sick. We need to protect and expand the ability to receive affordable health care services. This begins with making sure that those currently eligible for insurance are not turned away because of pre-existing conditions, and ensuring that coverage plans feature affordable premiums and copays.”
State Rep. Nate Shannon is also a champion for reproductive health care. In the state legislature, State Rep. Nate Shannon co-sponsored a groundbreaking package of legislation called the Reproductive Health Act. If enacted, the RHA would ensure all Michiganders can make personal decisions regarding their health and pregnancies without interference from anti-choice politicians. You can count on State Rep. Nate Shannon to protect and expand access to health care.
