Women from communities across Michigan showed up at the polls to elect Gretchen Whitmer as Michigan’s next Governor. Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan (PPAM) is proud to have worked alongside all those who helped make this victory possible.
With more than 400,000 active supporters, PPAM is a strong voice for women in Michigan – the same women whose time, money, energy and ideas powered this victory. Whether it’s protecting reproductive rights, advocating for clean drinking water, standing up for the rights of our LGBTQ friends – women have led the fights over the past two years. And they’re not backing down now.
“They tried to come for our health care, and we said no. They tried to come for our birth control, and we said no. They tried to come for our LGBTQ neighbors, for our immigrant friends, for families who just wanted a chance at a healthier, safer life, and we said no,” stated PPAM President & CEO Lori Carpentier.
“Make no mistake: these results are a deafening rebuke of the conservative agenda that’s been harming Michigan’s women, families and teens for the last eight years. Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan and our 400,000 active supporters are ready to work alongside Gretchen Whitmer to make health care easier to access and more affordable for anyone who needs it. This is a great day for Michigan, and we are thrilled that the women of Michigan finally have a leader who understands them, who believes them, and who will represent them.”
