All people deserve equal access to safe, legal abortion, no matter who they are, where they live, or how much money they make. We must ensure that individuals living in, or forced to travel to, Michigan can safely access abortion without facing unnecessary and harmful barriers to care.

Patients deserve to know that their private health information is protected. We must ensure that all people – including those traveling to Michigan for care – can access abortion and other sexual and reproductive health care without fear that their personal health information will be shared or used as grounds for legal action.

Birth control is essential for reproductive health care that helps patients plan their families and manage health conditions. In addition to pregnancy prevention, birth control reduces pregnancy-related morbidity and mortality rates and lessens a person’s risk of developing certain reproductive cancers. Birth control should be accessible, affordable, and covered by insurance.

Sexual and reproductive health care providers support the physical and emotional well-being of their patients. They, in turn, deserve to have protections and support afforded to them such as professional working environments that are free from harassment, and access to a full range of resources to support their professional and economic well-being.

Sexual health education provides young people with the tools and resources they need to make informed decisions about their lives, health, and relationships. K-12 students deserve comprehensive sexual health education that is age-appropriate, medically accurate, culturally responsive, and inclusive.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and gender-diverse Michiganders often face barriers to health care, including discrimination, lack of insurance coverage, provider insensitivity, and lack of awareness of available resources. We must break down these barriers to care and ensure that patients of all gender identities and sexual orientations can access high-quality, affirming health care.

The primary goal of Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs) is to deter pregnant people from accessing abortion. To do this, they often use deceptive tactics to confuse patients about the services they offer and distribute inaccurate information about birth control, abortion and sexual health. Michiganders deserve accurate information and access to care from licensed medical professionals. We must hold CPCs accountable and ensure Michiganders can safely access care from trusted providers.

For many people living in rural, remote, or medically-underserved areas, traveling long distances to receive care can be both difficult and expensive. Telemedicine allows patients to access high-quality medical care from home, eliminating barriers to care. We support efforts to expand access to telehealth and high-speed internet throughout Michigan.

Each year, more than 60,000 Michiganders rely on Planned Parenthood of Michigan for sexual and reproductive health care and education, including birth control, abortion, STI testing and treatment, cancer screenings, and gender-affirming care. PPMI relies on federal, state, and local funding and reimbursement to serve all Michiganders, regardless of their insurance coverage, immigration status, or income.

Michigan parents deserve the resources and support they need to raise their family and care for their children’s well-being, including affordable childcare, workplace protections for pregnant and parenting employees, and a fair living wage.
