Listen to your Constituents – 71% Support Roe v. Wade

Anti-abortion activists have never been more out of touch with Americans than they are at this moment in time.

A recent NBC/ Wall Street Journal poll found that 71 percent of American voters support Roe. v. Wade and do not believe it should be overturned. And while support for Roe was higher among Democrats, a majority of Republicans — 52 percent! — also support leaving Roe intact.

The findings come as the Trump administration entertains changes to Title X that would make it harder for women to access safe, legal abortion services, and as the Senate prepares to vote on the president’s nomination of staunch anti-abortion judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

From NBC:
A new poll from NBC News and the Wall Street Journal finds that 71 percent of American voters believe that the decision, which established a woman’s legal right to an abortion, should not be overturned. Just 23 percent say the ruling should be reversed.

That’s the highest level of support for the decision — and the lowest share of voters who want Roe v. Wade overturned — in the poll’s history dating back to 2005. In 1989, according to Gallup’s survey, 58 percent said they believed it should stay in place while 31 percent disagreed.

Since Roe was decided in 1973, two generations of American women have come of age knowing they had the legal right to make this personal decision for themselves, in consultation with their health care provider. One in four women will have an abortion by the age of 45, meaning the vast majority of Americans know, and love, someone who has counted on access to safe, legal abortion.

For thirty years, the majority of Americans have supported a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions — and yet conservatives have spent the last three decades relentlessly attacking that right and undermining access to abortion and birth control.

Now, more than ever, our leaders need to hear from us.

Contact Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters and tell them to oppose any biased Supreme Court nominee who would threaten our reproductive rights: ppact.io/2Ix2mRp

And submit a comment to the Department of Health and Human Services saying you oppose their attempt to silence doctors and restrict access to reproductive health care:

The vast majority of American voters support access to abortion. It’s time our leaders in Washington and Lansing started to represent the majority.
