Our theme for April’s Detroit Activist Night is GYT: Get Yourself Tested. GYT is a national campaign that takes place during STD Awareness Month each April and is focused on helping young people take control of their sexual health.
As part of our ongoing efforts to reduce stigma around sex and sexuality in our local communities, we’ll talk about we can:
-normalize STD testing and communication around STDs as part of a smart and empowered sex life
-encourage open dialogue with partners about testing for and preventing STDs
-push back on stigma by emphasizing that STDs are not about morality
We’ll hear from one of our amazing clinicians from our Detroit PP Health Center about how Planned Parenthood is leading the way as a nonjudgmental expert in STD testing, treatment, education, and information.
And we’ll brush up on our knowledge about STDs (just in time for tabling season!) with a few rounds of trivia. Fun prizes included!
